Sunday May 1, 2011: The Shaker teams continued to demonstrate that hardwork pays off with successful League Meets and Invitationals this past week.
Both the Shaker Boys and Girls teams swept their League Meets early in the week. The Girls defeated Bethlehem and Ballston Spa, bringing their overall League record to 4-2. The Shaker Boys continued their undefeated league season with wins over Mohonasen, Burnt Hills, and Columbia to move to a 7-0 record. Shaker Girls League Meet #4 Photo Gallery
The Girls have have a league meet this Monday at 4:00 at Niskayuna HS against Nisky and Saratoga. The Shaker Boys will have their next League Meet this Tuesday at home against Colonie and Guilderland with a 4:00pm start. In addition, both teams will compete at the Colonie Relays this upcoming Saturday. The JV Meet will be contested in the morning, and the varsity meet in the afternoon.

The Shaker Girls followed up their strong league meet performances, with an outstanding race at the Penn Relays.
The Girls 4X400M Relay team of Kristi Hayes, Emily Vandenburgh, Melissa Sheridan, and Kayleigh Lavender ran their way to a first place finish in their heat (Video Below), bringing home a prestigious Penn Relays plaque. The Shaker Boys DMR, while not competing as well as they hoped, still managed to finish 14th overall in the HS Boys Championship of America race, competing against many of the top teams in the country. Juniors Christian Delago and Mike Libruk both were able to gain valuable experience that they will be able to use next year at the relays. Penn Relays 2011 Photo Gallery
The excitment for the Shaker Girls didn't stop there though, as they also took a close 2nd at the Hudson Falls Invitational this past Saturday with several very impressive performances. First place finishers were: Kristi Hayes (400M), Kayleigh Lavender (800M), Emily Vandenburgh (Long Jump), and the 4x400M Relay (Christine Coughlin, Melissa Sheridan, Kayleigh Lavender, Kristi Hayes). Other top performances inlcuded Emily Vandenburgh (2nd-Triple Jump and 3rd-200M), Jean Chakmakas (6th-800M), Christine Coughlin (5th-1500M), Suzanne Zoufaly (4th-Pole Vault), and Eileen Jin (6th-Triple Jump).
In addition, the Shaker Boys sent many athletes to the Cohoes Relays this past Saturday. While there was no team scoring, the meet provided an excellent opportunity for personal bests and earning awards. The highlight of the day was Connor Brant's 13' Pole Vault PR which led the team of Brant and Tim Derocher to tie the Cohoes Relays Pole Vault Relay meet record of 25' (Video Below). Other first place finishes were earned by the Long Jump Relay of Franklin Abban and Justice Ramsay, and the Shot Put Relay of Carlos Mendez, Brian Gallagher, and Jared Kirkey. Additional top three performances included Casey Gilboy (3rd-Steeplechase), DMR (3rd-Adam Schwenzfeier, Jackson Ciavardoni, Kyle Foster, Max Morgan), 4X200M (3rd-Sam Spiro, Dan Phillips, David Haller, Rob Smith), 4X400M (2nd-Sam Spiro, Dan Phillips, Rob Smith, Ian Weykamp), 4x800M Relay (2nd-Juan Alvarez, Jon Vallecorsa, Ryan Recchia, Kyle Foster), High Jump Relay (3rd-Bailey and Haller), and the Triple Jump Relay (2nd-Abban and Ramsay).
School Record Watch: Keep an eye on the record board! Suzanne Zoufaly tied the 11th Grade Shaker Girls Pole Vault Record with a vault of 9' this past weekend, putting her within 3" of the outdoor school record in that event. Several other grade records and school records are likely to be broken this season. Be on the watch for both the Boys and Girls Long Jump records, as both have been in recent jeopardy. In addition, Casey Gilboy will be chasing the 3000M Steeplechase record in the weeks to come, and Brian Gallagher will hope to take down his own Pentathlon record that he set last year. Finally keep an eye on the relay records, as the Shaker Girls have been very successful in the 4x400M as of late, the girls return 3 of 4 members of their school record 4x800M from last year, and the Shaker Boys hope to make another run at the school record DMR. Several athletes are also expected to challenge grade records as the weather and the competition heat up in the second half of the season. The Inside Track will update you each week as the Shaker athletes compete to earn a spot on the record board. Follow the record pages below, which will be updated as the new records are set.
