Sunday May 16, 2010: This was another busy week for the Shaker teams as they ended the regular season and continued to prepare for the upcoming championship meets.
Shaker Boys and Girls athletes competed at the Eddy Meet on Saturday, May 15th, at Union College. The Shaker Boys were 5th as a team and the Shaker Girls were 14th with over 30 teams in each field. Despite windy conditions, several athletes achieved new PRs including Chris Herman with his 1:55.68 earning him 3rd overall in the Boys 800M. The highlight of the day came with Shaker Girl's sophomore Emily Vandenburgh setting a new school record in the long jump with a leap of 17'6.25" earning her 5th place in the event while taking down a 17 year old record! Emily will have two more years to break her own record! In addition to those two, other top perfromacnes included Matt Conti (5th-800M), Christian Delago (8th-800M), Ryan Egan (6th-3200M), Brendan Dolan (2nd-400M Hurdles), 4X800M Relay (1st-Dylan Hedderman, Kyle Foster, Jeff Heim, Caleb Mellon), Tim Derocher (6th-Pole Vault), and Naquan Lewis (2nd-Shot Put). Other girls highlights included: 4X100M Relay (4th-Carly Brundige, Madison Rowland, Kristi Hayes, Emily Vandenburgh), and Madison Rowland (6th-High Jump). Results

The Shaker Boys and Girls competed in their least league meet of the season this past Monday and Tuesday. The Shaker Boys went 3-0 over Burnt Hills, Mohonasen, and Columbia on Tuesday, to complete an undefeated 11-0 regular league meet season in Suburban Council. The Girls went 3-0 on Monday defeating Guilderland, Burnt Hills, and Ballston Spa, finishing with an impressive 9-2 season. The teams now move into the championship part of the season. This Week: The Shaker Girls will have JV Championships on Monday, May 17th and Boys JV Championships will be on Wednesday, May 19th both 4:00pm at Guilderland High School. The Shaker Boys will look to defend their Suburban Council title as they compete at Varsity Suburban Council Championships on Tuesday, May 18th at Shenendehowa beginning at 4:00pm. The Girls Varsity Championships are scheduled for Wednesday at 3:30pm at Colonie HS.
Attention Cross Country Runners: The deadline to register for the reduced camp rate for the Portsmouth/Newport Running Camp is May 31, 2010. Space is limited and if you sign up soon you are eligible to receive a special team discount arranged through shakerrunning.com. Boys Outdoor Track Banquet: The Boys Outdoor Track end of the season banquet will be held on June 9th at the Colonie Elks Pavillion. The cost of the banquet will be $7.00 per person. Please bring payment by June 1st (Checks made out to: Shaker All Sports Booster Club).
