Sunday March 8, 2009: Shaker Boys 4x400M Relay team moves up to 17th all-time in Section 2 with their 3:29.01 performance at the NY State Meet on Saturday, March 7th. The team of Brendan Dolan, Matt Dustin, Matt Conti and Ebube Abara (who also ran the 55 Hurdles at States) finished 5th overall [in the Federation competition which includes public and non-public schools throughout New York State].

Shaker Boys 4x200M Relay team of Alvin Porter, Jaquelle “JQ” Chandler, Ruben Feinman and Bryan Letourneau finished 6th overall in the finals.

The good news for Shaker fans is that those two relays teams, which each won the Section 2 Qualifier last week to represent our region at States, will both return three of their four runners next season.

Chris Herman missed his PR by less than a half second in the 600M race at the State Meet. Of all the runners in the 600M field, only five of those eligible to return next year finished ahead of the Shaker junior.

Prince Abban and Mike Ofosu both finished in the top 12 in New York State in the triple jump at the State Meet. Abban also finished 13th in NY State in the long jump competition.

First day of Boys Outdoor Track practice is Monday March 9, 2009 @ 3:00. For information and schedules for the upcoming outdoor track season click here.

The Shaker Boys DMR ran a season best of 10:33 at Eastern States on February 24 at the Armory. The team of Ryan Egan (1200M), JQ Chandler (400M), Chris Herman (800M) and Craig Weiss (1600M) improved their time by more than 2 seconds in the 3rd fastest DMR time in Section 2 this season.

Congratulations to Tim Derocher who set a new 10th grade Indoor Pole Vault record of 12’ 9” at the State Qualifying Meet and to Caleb Mellon who set a new 1000M grade record for 8th graders with a time of 2:47.5

Shaker was well represented in the 3200M at the State Qualifier meet on March 1st as several team members had a PR in their race that day. Senior Craig Weiss just missed qualifying for the State meet with his 4th place finish. Three of the outstanding group of Frosh distance runners also had their best Indoor 3200M: Mike Libruk, Jon Vallecorsa and Ryan Recchia.

The Spring Sports Information Night for Parents is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24th at 7:00 PM at Shaker High School. Parents of any athletes competing in Outdoor Track should plan on attending.
