Sunday March 14, 2010: WOW! This was a big weekend for the Shaker Boys at Nike Indoor Nationals at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
The highlight of the weekend was the 4X800M Relay team of Matt Conti, Chris Herman, Dave Marthy, and Ryan Egan, who finished 1st overall with a time of 7:48.45. They were NATIONAL CHAMPIONS and All-Americans, and also finished with the second fastest time in the United States this indoor season and ran the 2nd fastest time ever in Section 2 for that event. The only team in the history of Section 2 to ever run faster than the 4X800M team this weekend was the 2005 Shaker team (Jupin, Maloy, Myers, Belokopitsky) which still holds the school record with an incredible time of 7:42.84.
The 4Xmile relay team also added an impressive performance. The team of Ryan Egan, Kyle Foster, Casey Gilboy, and Mike Libruk set a new school record in the event with a time of 17:59.14 earning All-American Status by finishing 5th and surpassing the Shaker team from two years ago (Weiss, Manico, Corelli, Sniffen) that ran 18:08.48.
The 4X400M Relay team of Matt Conti, JQ Chandler, Reuben Feinman, and Brendan Dolan ended Nike Nationals on a good note by winning their heat and finishing 10th overall with a time of 3:23.94, less than 2 tenths of a second off the recent school record performance. Shaker's Shuttle Hurdle Relay team of JQ Chandler, Brian Gallagher, Brendan Dolan, and Freshman Ian Weykamp ran an exciting race with a time of 31.86, missing the school record by under two tenths of a second.
In addition to the 4X800M Relay National Champions, Shaker had a strong "B" team of Mike Libruk, Jon Vallecorsa, Christian Delago, and Kyle Foster compete at Nike Nationals. The underclassmen team finished 28th overall in 8:10.39. Also, Shaker Freshman Caleb Mellon ran in the Freshman Mile finishing 22nd in 4:47.75.
While the Boys were at Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston this weekend, two Shaker girls were competing at The National Scholastic Indoor Championships(NSIC) at the NYC Armory. 8th Grader Laura Libruk ran the Middle School Mile and finished 13th in 5:41.24 while Kayliegh Lavender ran the Freshman Girls Mile in 5:43.78 for a 25th place finish.

The Boys Outdoor Track team collected money this past Saturday at Wal-Mart and Sams Club in Latham Farms. Thank you to all those who helped out!
Spring Sports Information Night is scheduled for Thursday March 25, 2010 at 7PM at Shaker High School. It is mandatory that parents attend this program before athletes can compete.

2010 Indoor Track & Field Year End Awards Banquet
When: Wed. March 24th 6:00-8:00 pm
Where: Taft Hall Dining Room
Cost: $7 Per Person Check Made out to “Shaker All-Sports Booster Club”. There will also be a 50/50 drawing with all proceeds going to help support the team.
Who: Any indoor track and field athlete, their friends and families.
Why: To recognize everyone's achievements throughout the season and to give special recognition to those athletes who have earned it.
What to Bring: Bring your own refreshments and all food and dessert will be provided.
**If you are not doing outdoor track you must turn in your complete uniform by the night of the banquet or you will be fined $65 to cover replacement costs.**
Food: Catered by “Testo's” with foods such as pizza, wings, baked ziti, veggies, and salad.
R.S.V.P.: Mail or drop off in mailbox in the High School Athletic office. Shaker High School c/o Coach Stadtlander 445 Watervliet Shaker Rd. 12110 with number attending and check made out to Shaker All-Sports Booster Club ASAP.
