Sunday February 8, 2009: Shaker’s horizontal jumpers again led the team this week. Prince Abban leaped 21’4.25” to win the long jump in the Great Dane Classic on Sunday (2/8) and Mike Ofosu had his own PR to win the triple jump in 45’2.5” as the Boys team prepared for Sectionals at UAlbany on Saturday. The highlight for the Girls team was the win by 4x800M relay team that has consistently been among the strongest in Section 2 this season. Great Dane Results
Sectionals will be held this Saturday, February 14th at UAlbany. Shaker will be competing with the largest schools (by enrollment) in Section 2 including Albany High, Bethlehem, C.B.A., Colonie, Guilderland, LaSalle, Saratoga, Schenectady and Shenendehowa.
Alumni Watch: The New Balance Collegiate Meet held on Saturday (2/7) at the Armory in New York City included several athletes who are recent Shaker grads and school record holders such as R.J. Sniffen (UAlbany), John Maloy (Georgetown) and Joe Belokopitsky (UAlbany). Watch the UAlbany track team over the next few years as they continue to build their program with a heavy emphasis on recruiting local high school stars.
Mike Ofosu is the highest ranked individual Shaker athlete in New York State. He is listed as having the 8th best triple jump in New York this season according to armorytrack
