Sunday January 9, 2011: Christian DelagoThe records have started to fall. Christian Delago kicked off the 2011 assault on the Shaker records, breaking the school record in the 1000m with a time of 2:29.89 at the Cornell Southern Tier Classic smashing John Maloy's previous record by nearly two seconds. Christian's time was the #7 All-Time in Section 2 history while Reuben Feinman in the 600m was #14 All-Time in Section 2. As the Shaker Boys competed at Cornell on Saturday, the Shaker girls were in New Hampshire on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Dartmouth Relays.

The Shaker Girls also had an exciting weekend, with the Girls Distance Medley Relay(Kayleigh Lavender, Christine Coughlin, Melissa Sheridan, Emily Vandenburgh) kicking things off Friday night by capturing 3rd place in a time of 12:38.08 and likely qualifying them for the Eastern States Championships meet on March 1st at the Armory. Other top performances included Kayleigh Lavender (6th-600m), Melissa Sheridan (4th-800m), Christine Coughlin (4th-1000m), Hannah Madison (7th-High Jump), and Emily Vandenburgh (8th-Long Jump).

Even though there was no team scoring at the Southern Tier Classic, the Shaker boys dominated the competition bringing home awards in many different events. Top eight award-winning finishers included Mike Libruk (5th-3200m), Jon Vallecorsa (8th-3200m), Casey Gilboy (3rd-1600m), Kyle Foster (5th-3200m), Christian Delago (2nd-1000m), Dave Marthy (8th-1000m), Reuben Feinman (2nd-600m), Rob Smith (6th-600m), John O'Connor (8th-600m), 4x800m Relay (2nd-Mike Libruk, Max Morgan, Brian Hickey, Jeff Heim), 4x200m Relay (3rd-Justice Ramsey, Tubo Akanbou, Kenny Jackson, Reuben Feinman), 4x400m Relay (4th-Rob Smith, Dan Phillips, Sam Spiro, John O'Connor), Tim Derocher (3rd-Pole Vault), Connor Brant (7th-Pole Vault), Justice Ramsey (3rd-Long Jump), and Franklin Abban (1st-Triple Jump and 4th-Long Jump), Sterling Green (3rd-High Jump), David Haller (4th-High Jump), and Steven Brown (8th-Shot Put).

The Shaker teams also particpated in League Meet #4 this past Tuesday. The Shaker Boys captured the team over Bethlehem, while the Shaker Girls were defeated for the first time in league meets this season and finished second behind Bethlehem. Top three girls finishes were: Emily Vandenburgh (1st-Triple Jump and 2nd-55m), Nicki Hayes (1st-300m), Kayleigh Lavender (1st-600m), Melissa Sheridan (2nd-600m), Blair Burke (2nd-1000m), 4x200m Relay (2nd), 4x400m Relay (1st-Christine Coughlin, Kayleigh Lavender, Melissa Sheridan, Sarah Murawski), 4x800m Relay (2nd), Hannah Madison (2nd-High Jump), Rachel Benoit (3rd-High Jump), and Chelia Diao (3rd-Shot Put).

Top finishes on the boys side were: Kenny Jackson (1st-55m and 3rd-300m), Carlos Mendez (3rd-55m), Jack Fallon-Underwood (1st-600m), Josh Catrine (2nd-600m), Jeff Heim (1st-1000m), Mike Libruk (1st-1600m), Jon Vallecorsa (2nd-1600m), Ethan Hausamann (3rd-1600m), Ryan Recchia (1st-3200m), Kyle Foster(2nd-3200m), Casey Gilboy (3rd-3200m), 4x200m Relay (2nd), 4x400m Relay (1st-John O'Connor, Dan Phillips, Reuben Feinman, Rob Smith), 4x800m Relay (2nd), David Haller (1st-High Jump and 2nd-Triple Jump), Franklin Abban (1st-Long Jump), Justice Ramsey (1st-Triple Jump and 2nd-Long Jump), Jordan Crump (3rd-Triple Jump), and Carlos Mendez (1st-Shot Put).

This Week: Shaker Junior Christian Delago wil compete in the Millrose Trials One Mile Seeded Race at the NYC Armory on Thursday night, January 13th. Delago, who split 4:16 in the Marine Corps Holiday Classic DMR will be looking to finish in the top two in the Boys 1 Mile to earn an automatic bid to the prestigious Millrose Games in Madison Square Gardens on January 28th. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm and you can watch the races in the Live Webcast on ArmoryTrack.com. The Boys Millrose Qualifier Seeded Mile is scheduled for approximately 7:50pm. Shaker Junior Mike Libruk will also be competing in the meet, in the Unseeded Boys Mile Race. Best of luck to Christian and Mike!

On Saturday, a small number of Shaker Boys varsity athletes will travel to the NYC Armory to compete in the Molloy Stanner Games beginning at 9:00am. Stay tuned for more details.

On Sunday, January 16th, The Boys and Girls teams will compete in League Meet #5 at HVCC. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:30pm and is a non-scoring meet.
