Sunday January 31, 2010: The Shaker Boys assured themselves a second straight Suburban Council Indoor Track Championship with an outstanding performance on Sunday, January 31st.
While two events (pole vault and shot put), had been postponed to Monday, February 1st, the Shaker team has already scored enough points to assure they will again bring home the team title. Another complete team effort led to the victory as Shaker scored in every event on Sunday. The seniors who form the core of a truly amazing middle distance group again led the way. Matt Conti won the 300M and also was a member of the winning 4x200M and 4x400M relays. Chris Herman won the 600M and was on the winning 4x400 relay. Brendan Dolan won his heat in the 600M (4th overall), scored in the 55M Hurdles and ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay. Matt Dustin ran legs on two winning relay teams and JQ Chandler was 3rd in the 55M Hurdles and 7th in the 300M. Darryl Roberts was second in the 55M and ran on the winning 4x200M relay. In the distance events, Casey Gilboy, running in the second heat, lapped the entire field to finish 3rd overall in the 3200M. Sophomores Jon Vallecorsa and Ethan Hausaman also scored in the same event. Ryan Egan finished second in a very competitive and close 1600M, while Kyle Foster running in the second heat of that race, finished 4th overall in a new PR. In the 1000M, Dave Marthy (second heat) and Dylan Hedderman both provided points in the scoring.
In the jumping events, the triple jump was the highlight for Shaker as Franklin Abban and Dave Haller both leaped over 40’ for new PRs and along with previous 40’ jumper Sterling Green scored 15 points in that event bringing a big smile to the face of Coach Hayes. Green and Haller also scored in the high jump. The top Shaker finisher in the long jump was Reuben Feinman who scored in the 300M and was a member of the winning 4x200M relay. Brian Gallagher was second in the 55M Hurdles and also competed in the long jump and high jump. It should be noted that all of the Shaker athletes in the jump events along with top pole vaulter Tim Derocher are sophs or juniors and will be back for one or two more years [Coach Hayes is still smiling].
