Sunday January 24, 2010: Congratulations to the Shaker Boys Freshman team who won the 5th straight Suburban Council Frosh Championship this Sunday by over 100 points! Ian Weykamp led the team winning the 55HH, 300, and 55m. Keegen Rodino won the HJ, triple jump and was 2nd in the long jump. Max Morgan was a double winner with victories in the 1000M and 1600M and Adam Schwenzfeier easily won the 3200M. Ryan Griffin won the shot put by almost seven feet and also scored in the 55M. Other scorers in two individual events were Rob Smith (300M and 55M Hurdles along with a leg on the winning 4x400M relay) and Jordan Crump-King (High Jump and Triple Jump). Among the other Shaker athletes who added points to the big victory were Josh Farrell (1000M), John O’Connor (55M and 4x400M), Marco Hahn (600M and 4x400M), Dan Ruiz (600M), Dan Hausamann and Quinn Sorady (3200M), Josh Catrine (winning 4x400M relay team), Dan Gavin (Pole Vault), Jim David (Triple Jump) and Schuyler Huntington (Shot Put). The Shaker Girls team captured the Suburban Council Frosh Championship in an exciting one point victory over runner-up Saratoga and the rest of the league on Sunday. Sarah Murawski and Katie Green went 1-2 in the 300M and each ran a leg on the winning 4x200M relay team. Rachel Benoit won the 55M Hurdles and finished second in the High Jump while Hannah Madison won the High Jump and ran a leg on the winning 4x200M relay. Rebecca Yates ran a leg on the winning 4x200M relay and also scored in the 55M. Chelia Diao won the Shot Put while Kayla Catalfamo scored in the High Jump and the 55M Hurdles. Other individual scorers for Shaker were Laura Libruk and Jessica Dzialo in the 3000M, Meg Deguire in the 1000M and Emily Franko in the 600M. Results
The Shaker Girls sent several athletes down to the NYC Armory this past Saturday to compete at the New Balance Games. The 4X800M Relay team of Melissa Sheridan, Zosia Dunn, Molly Nephew, and Christine Coughlin ran 9:46.86 and finished 19th out of 68 teams. Zosia ran a PR of 2:21.8 while Christine Coughlin ran the 800M for the first time in a 2:29.5. The 4X400M Relay team of Carly Brundige, Emily Vandenburgh, Kristi Hayes, and Christine Coughlin ran a 4:15.93 and finished 34th out of 91 teams. The Girls SMR Team (Vandenburgh, Brundige, Hayes, Dunn) finished 10th of 75 teams in a time of 4:19.79. Results
The Shaker Boys Varsity team ran at the All Comers Meet at RPI while the Shaker Girls were down at the Armory. Sterling Green broke the 10th grade record in the HJ clearing 6' and jumped 40' 1/2" in the triple jump. Carlos Mendez threw a PR in the shot put, Ryan Egan ran a strong 1000 finishing 1st and Mike Libruk finished a close 2nd, Reuben Feinman ran a solid 300, Brian Hickey finished 2nd in the 3200, and Casey Gilboy, Kyle Foster, Ethan Hausamann, and Ryan Recchia all had strong races in the 1600.

The Shaker Boys and Girls Teams will be competing at the Suburban Council Varsity Championships this Sunday at UAlbany beginning at 8:30AM. The Shot Put and Pole Vault events will be contested earlier, this Thursday afternoon, at 4:15PM at Shenendehowa.

Shaker Girls Alumni Update by Christine Hall: The Shaker girls alumni started their indoor track season with the Jay Carisella Invitational and the Saints Indoor Invitational. Christine Hall ran the 800 meters for Northeastern with a new indoor PR of 2:28, and Kaitlyn Deluca from SUNY Plattsburgh ran the 55 meter dash in 9.02. This is their first season running indoor collegiate track and field.
Shaker Boys Alumni Update by Will Schanz: At the about midpoint of the indoor college season, it has been a mixed bag of results for the Shaker alumni this season. Here are the results of how each past Shaker runner has run thus far:
-Matt Bogdan: Only race so far has been a 14:45 5k, a great effort by Bogdan
-RJ Sniffen: Unfortunately has had some serious injury problems all year long. In his first race back in about 6 months RJ ran a 9:16 3k.
-Craig Weiss: After a good xc season, Craig has had a solid indoor season. Craig has run two 3k’s so far, with his best one being this past weekend running a 9:06.
-Ebube Abara: Has already made an immediate impact with Albany team. Has been part of a couple important relays and has run a 50.66 open 400 and a 1:06.6 open 500.
-Chris Manico: Has only run one race in a solid time of 8:50 in the 3k.
-Brian Benson: Has had a solid start to the season. Has run a 4:28 mile and a 1:59 800
-Will Schanz: Hasn’t been a good start to the seaon. Injuries and sickness has kind of slowed him down, and has only run a best time of a 9:38 at the 3k this season.
-Chris Vanzetta: Has a solid start to the season. Has run a 2:01 800, split a 54 in a 4x400 and recently just ran 1:09 in the open 500.
-Nick Webster: Isn’t running for the remainder of the year as he is abroad this semester in Italy.
