The big meet for Shaker Boys and Girls teams last week was the Yale Invitational held January 16th & 17th on the Yale campus. Craig Weiss was the top Shaker finisher among nearly 20 Shaker distance runners in the Boys 3000M race in a time just under 9:00. Results Looks like Shaker Boys will have a team in the top 5 on Section 2 Leaderboard for each relay (4x200M, 4x400M, 4x800M, SMR and DMR).
The Girls and Boys Cross Country banquet was held last Sunday night (1/11). Among the awards that were presented were the Most Valuable Athlete Awards to Craig Weiss and to Emma Risler. The team members from the senior class were recognized along with their parents. A complete list of all award winners including Most Improved, Sportsmanship and Scholar Athletes are listed. List of Awards
For the first time ever in the same season, the Shaker Girls and the Boys Cross Country teams were each selected as the top Suburban Council Cross Country teams for Sportsmanship… an award that is presented in each sport and voted upon by league coaches, athletes, etc.
The Shaker Girls Cross Country team was recognized as the Suburban Council team with the highest girls academic average in Section 2 Cross Country (97.273). The Boys team streak of consecutive running (XC or Track) seasons as the top Section 2 team for academic average has finally ended after five seasons, although the Indoor Track team will be attempting to start a new streak.
The highlight of this week’s schedule is the Suburban Council Frosh Championships (for both the Boys and the Girls) to be held Saturday afternoon (1/24) at HVCC. The Boys team is hoping to extend their Frosh Championship streak to four after having won the title each of the last three years.
