The Inside Track
Sunday November 9, 2008

Sunday November 9, 2008: Congratulations to Ryan Egan for being named Athlete of the Week at Shaker High School after his 7th place finish in the Section Class AA Championships on October 31st.

The Shaker Boys team reached its highest ranking of this season when they were listed as #10 in New York State Class AA in last week’s listing on armorytrack. The Shaker Girls team was listed as #17 in the same poll for Class AA girls.

Congratulations to Craig Weiss and Ryan Egan for running in Saturday’s New York State Cross Country Championships. Craig finished 28th and Ryan finished 62nd of the more than 100 of the State’s best Class AA runners.

Section 2, considered by many to be the most competitive region in the country for high school cross country, again lived up to its reputation. Our section had the first place team in Boys Class AA (Shenendehowa), Boys Class A (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Girls Class A (Burnt Hills- Ballston Lake) and Class D Girls (Greenwich) along with a solid second place in Class AA by Saratoga Girls. The next few weeks should give even more opportunity for Section 2 to show off its talent and depth.

Reminder: Shaker Girls and Boys Cross Country Banquet will be held on Sunday, November 23rd at the Shaker High Taft Dining Hall. Doors will open at 5:00 PM and the Buffet Dinner will be available beginning at 5:30. The cost is $10 per person and checks should be made payable to the “Shaker Booster Club” and returned to Coach Gansle or Coach Springstead.

Indoor Track: Key Dates: Wednesday, 11/12 First Day of Boys Indoor Track Practice 2:30 PM; Tuesday, 11/25 Parents Winter Sports Information Night.

Alumni Watch: Returning to the Scene of one of their greatest triumphs will be several Shaker graduates who were on the fastest Shaker team ever to win their race at the Manhattan Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park. Among the teams who will be competing in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on November 15th will be UAlbany (R.J. Sniffen ’08 and Chris Manico ‘08), Yale (Matt Bogdan ’07), and Marist (Nick Webster ’07). Hopefully, all the former Shaker runners will be able to run and also spend a little time after the race talking about that memorable Manhattan victory at the same location in 2006.

Thanks to Mr. Weiss, Mr. Dodd and Maura Fitzgerald for submitting pictures in the last few weeks of the season.
