Friday November 12, 2010: This weekend’s weather conditions are expected to be close to ideal for New York in November. Today there was some debate over the uniform question and whether a team could wear their school uniforms or had to wear their sectional colored shirts. There were also a lot of comments from runners who saw the “hill” for the first time. Some were clearly intimidated while others are anxious to test their abilities in tomorrow’s races.
I don’t know if the competition can get any better than an opening race in which the top two girls teams in the country will again face off. The four time defending national champions from Fayetteville-Manlius will face the always strong Saratoga team in a battle expected to be repeated at least twice more in the next three weeks. The other race with highly ranked teams is the Boys Class AA where the Shaker team (#7 in the USA) is trying to win the first State Championship for their coach, Ed Springstead, who is in his 53rd year of coaching. They are expected to be challenged by several other highly ranked New York teams, including F-M, Warwick and Rush Henrietta. In other races, Aisling Cuffe, who is considered the best female high school runner in the nation this year, is expected to bring home the individual Class A title. Among the many other stories to watch …Can Burnt Hills capture the Class A title for both boys and girls? Will Fonda-Fultonville for the boys or Greenwich for the girls be able to win a NYS Championship in Class C? What about the Broadalbin-Perth boys and girls teams in the Class B races? Among the individuals to watch from Section 2 will be winners from last week’s Sectional Championships including Shen’s Lizzie Predmore (AA), Queensbury’s Brittany Winslow (A), Albany Academy’s Morgan Wojtusik (B). It should be a great day for Section 2 runners and their fans…stay with us throughout the day for results and other updates.

This year's championships are sure to be exciting as several nationally ranked teams compete for state titles. The NYS Championships act as a qualifying meet for the NYS Federation Championships the following week, (11/20) at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.

Tips and Information about this year's NYSPHSSA Cross Country Championships:

PARKING:
$10 PARKING FEE
All spectator parking will be at Pawling High School where non-stop spectator buses will transport to and from the Park. You will not be allowed to park at Lakeside Park or on the side streets without the risk of being towed or ticketed. Please allow for the time to park and ride the shuttle in order to make your race. Parking is $10 per vehicle regardless of the number of passengers and this money will help offset the shuttle buses which are free to all.

TSHIRTS: (Info from Armory Track)
In the NYS Meet, the runners wear matching NYS Meet T-shirts in the color of their section instead of wearing their school uniforms. Here are some tips for spectators: (For ex. Section 2 are maroon)
1. Know your Section colors (and your competitons)

You need to know what color t-shirt the teams you are following are running in. Don't forget that each team and the 5 individuals will be in the same t-shirt so don't panic if it looks like oneteam has a ton of runners up front. They may just be the individuals from that Section mixed in.

2. Know your uniforms shorts (and your competitons)
The uniform short COLOR and STYLE need to be known to truly be able to come close to following the team score. Still this becomes very difficult to watch. When you can get to know the athletes themselves so you can just look for shirt colors.

3. Look at the colors of the numbers on the front - Runners witha number (their Section number) on the back of their shirts are running as individuals.
