Queensbury Invitational 5/10/08

Saturday is fast becoming the favorite day of the week for the Shaker Boys Track team! The team won a local Invitational track championship for the 4th time in the last 5 Saturdays. (The other week was the Penn Relays). In Saturday’s Invitational at Queensbury, there were two storylines. First, this Shaker team was missing several of its top athletes, including some key field event performers and many of the top sprinters who have been forced out of competition with injuries. The other story was how the team responded to the challenge, and led by top distance runners, including R.J. Sniffen and Craig Weiss brought home another championship trophy. Shaker scored points in every running event and again used depth and perseverance in defeating 22 other schools on a beautiful day in the Adirondacks. The only Shaker athletes to win their events were R.J. Sniffen, who won the featured mile race in a meet record time and Craig Weiss, also with a meet record, who moved onto the top 20 all-time 3000M Steeplechase performance list in Section 2 history. The reliable seniors, including Chris Manico, Jeff Corelli and Kevin Conti delivered valuable points in relays and individual races. Yet it may have been the younger team members who stepped up with important scoring or PRs that helped cement the victory.
