5/3/08 Shaker Boys Win Colonie Relays
The Shaker Boys team took home a team championship trophy for the third time in the last 4 four Saturdays with a big win on May 3rd, this time in the Colonie Relays. The team again used a balanced team effort to bring home the title in a field of 16 teams that included league rivals Colonie & Shenendehowa. Prince Abban was a key contributor as a member of three 1st place Shaker teams: Triple Jump (with Mike Ofosu and Adam Shamlian), Long Jump (with Matt Bendon & Ruben Feinman) & Sprint Medley Relay (with Matt Conti, Kevin Conti & RJ Sniffen). Craig Weiss had a big win in the 3000M Steeplechase, finishing only 8 seconds behind the meet record set last year by Shaker grad Matt Bogdan. The 4x800 Relay (Sedgwick, K. Conti, Maloy & Herman) and the Distance Medley Relay (Corelli, Manico, Dustin & Maloy) added important team victories. Crucial points were earned by several other athletes (including 3rd place finishes by Shaker Relay Teams in the 4X1600, Shot Put, Discus, and Pole Vault) who helped assure the victory for a Shaker team that is quickly learning to adjust to overcome injuries and perform at a level needed to continue winning.
