2008 Nisky EkidenCoach Springstead approached the Ekiden meet as an opportunity to prepare the team for the start of the Suburban Council on Tuesday and to help determine how prepared his runners are for the upcoming season. The meet was viewed by many as a tune-up for the regular season as the five person relay teams passed along a sash as they each ran a 1.55 mile leg. Coach arranged the four Shaker teams for balance that included having top runner Craig Weiss in a relay with three sophomores and a freshman. The first of the four Shaker relay teams to cross the finish line was led by Eric Young who ran the fastest leg of any Shaker runner for the meet. He was joined by Chris VanZetta, Matt Blizinski, Will Schanz and Ryan Egan as the team finished second overall. Among the other strongest performers for Shaker were Kyle Foster and Mike Libruk. The four Shaker teams, which included a combination of Varsity, JV and Frosh runners, all finished in the top 11 out of 22 teams who participated in the first ever Ekiden meet hosted by Niskayuna. The individual frosh 1000M race was won by Shaker 8th grader Adam Schwenzfeier.
