Suburban Council Championships 10/27/07

On a cold rainy day at Saratoga State Park, the Shaker team hoped to upset the favored Shenendehowa teams in the Boys races and several strong opponents on the Girls side. The Shen Boys Varsity entered the race as the #1 Ranked team in New York State and proved they are the most consistent, talented team in Section 2 and in NY. Despite strong races from RJ Sniffen (3rd), Craig Weiss (6th) and Chris Manico (10th), the superior depth of the Shen team was too much to overcome and the Shaker team finished second to Shen.

Shaker finished 5th in the JV Boys race and were led, as they had been all year by sophomore Eric Young. The Freshman Boys Team came closest of all the Shaker teams to bringing home a team Championship trophy. They were led by 8th grader Mike Libruk’s 3rd place overall finish and Kyle Foster in 5th place. After being sidelined for most of October, Casey Gilboy returned and finished in 7th place to give the team a boost. However, the 1-2 finish by the Shen runners along with strong back-up from other team members was just enough to give Shen a narrow 3 point win over the Shaker Frosh team that had been their chief rival all season.
The Varsity Girls team finished 7th overall and were led by Melissa Sheridan’s 29th place finish. The JV Girls team finished in 6th place as Molly Nephew was the first Shaker runner across the line as she placed 20th. The Girls Frosh team followed their Manhattan win with a 4th place finish. They were led by the 2nd place finish of seventh grader Morgan Wojtusik and Marissa McIntyre in 10th place overall.
