The Shaker Boys Varsity team ran in the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday (9/22/07), where the Federation meet for New York is held. Some viewed the Varsity Championship race as a prequalifier for Nike Team Nationals in Oregon. This course is one of the hardest courses in New York. Among the teams that ran were Brookline, Massachusetts, 21st in the nation and 4th in the Northeast region, Shenendehowa, New York the winner of the Federation meet last year and 6th at nationals last year, also CBA, New Jersey a historically strong team, and Kellenberg, Shaker, Niskayuna, and Averill Park. The team places were as followed: Brookline 1st with 66 points, Shenendehowa 2nd with 96 points, CBA 3rd with 117 points, and Kellenberg and Shaker were tied with 120 points but based on the 6th man for each team Kellenberg was given 4th and Shaker 5th. There were 13 teams and 90 runners in the Varsity Championship race. The Shaker 5th place finish was lead by R.J. Sniffen’s, senior, 5th place finish with a time of 16:40. Then Craig Weiss’, junior, 12th place finish with a time of 16:54. Followed by Chris Manico’s, senior, 19th place finish with a time of 17:18 then Devon Sedgwick, senior, with a 39th place a time of 17:52 and finally Jeff Corelli, senior, with a place of 45th and time of 18:05.
The Shaker boys J.V. team also ran at the Bowdoin Park on Saturday. The Shaker boys team was in the J.V. team A Race with a strong field including Shenendehowa and CBA New Jersey. The J.V. team finished in 5th place (out of 14 teams) with 157 points and were lead by Eric Young’s, sophomore, 18th place finish with a time of 19:15, Will Schanz’s, junior, 29th place finish with a time of 19:56. They were followed by Matt LaBombard’s, senior, 34th place finish with a time of 20:16, then Kyle Foster’s, freshmen, 35th place finish and a time of 20:18 and finally Matt Conti’s, sophomore, 41st place with a time of 20:36. Overall the J.V. team had a good performance on Saturday.
