Albany County Championships 10/29/07

Two days after the Suburbans, Shaker ran in the Albany County Cross Country Championships that had been rescheduled because of threatening weather. The field was far less competitive as some teams even rested their top runners for the upcoming Sectional races four days later. Expectations were high that Shaker would perform well in the County meet as a preparation for Sectionals.
At the end of the day, Shaker swept almost every team race and a Shaker runner was the individual winner in 5 of the 6 races. The Varsity Boys, led by RJ Sniffen, swept the top 5 individual spots in the race. The JV Boys, following the first place finish of Eric Young, placed their first five runners in the top seven finishers. The Frosh Boys also brought home the Championship by placing their top five runners in the first nine behind the individual victory of 8th grader Mike Libruk.

The outcome for the Shaker Girls teams was almost as dominating as the Boys. The Frosh Girls, running without their top two runners (who moved up to other races), finished second to a very strong Guilderland team. Melissa Sheridan was the individual winner in the race. The JV Girls led by 9th grader Blair Burke, placed four runners in the top seven, to win the JV Championship. The highlight may have come in the last race of the day, with the victory of 7th grade runner Morgan Wojtustik in the Varsity Girls race. She was the first of six Shaker runners in the top eleven finishers as Shaker added a 5th Team Championship on this memorable day.
